A thought about the first baby born on Mars
Someday a baby will be born on Mars.
They’ll weigh less than they would on Earth. Their bones will grow in 38% gravity. Their muscles will develop differently. They might grow taller. They’ll never feel rain.
They’ll look up at the night sky and see a blue dot. Earth. Where their grandparents came from. Where the oceans are. Where the air doesn’t need to be manufactured.
They’ll look at Earth the way we look at the Moon. Familiar. Distant. Ancestral.
That person will not be like us. And they’ll be entirely us.
I think about this more than is probably productive.
